Sue and John have spent most of their lives in East Devon, which means
recommendations at breakfast come from decades of actually going to the
places they're suggesting, not a guidebook. Guests consistently mention
the same thing: a genuine welcome, and hosts who go out of their way without
making a show of it.

Furnished in a traditional country house style with a few modern touches, the farmhouse has been welcoming guests long enough that many come back, and several reviewers mention returning for a second or third stay.
East Devon locals, through and through
Sue and John have spent most of their lives in this corner of Devon.
It shows in the way they run Buckley Farmhouse, with a working knowledge of every lane, footpath and pub for miles around, and a breakfast table that rarely runs short of advice on where to walk next.
Their farmhouse sits in two acres of garden on the edge of Sidbury, with views that fall away over the fields to Sidmouth and the sea beyond.
Five guest rooms are spread across the first floor, each individually furnished, and the sitting room downstairs has the kind of deep sofas and open fire that make it hard to leave before dinner.
Breakfast is cooked to order and served with eggs from the farmhouse's own hens.
Two miles from Sidmouth's seafront and shops, and close enough to Sidbury village to walk down for a pint at the Red Lion, it works equally well as a quiet weekend away or a base for exploring the whole East Devon coast.

A sitting room worth staying in for
Guests share a spacious lounge furnished with deep sofas, armchairs and an open fire, the sort of room made for a pot of tea after a day on the coast path. In summer, the terrace at the front of the house looks out over the garden and the countryside towards Sidmouth, a good spot to sit with a book or an evening glass of something cold.
Dining Room
A bright, sunlit dining room where guests are offered a Menu from which
they can select the breakfast of their choice from fruit juice, cereals,
mixed fruit and our delicious, cooked-to-order breakfast, served with fresh
eggs from the farmhouse's own hens.
